Source: Pakistan Blogzine

Pakistan’s self acclaimed liberal, columnist and rights activist Marvi Sirmed has written an article in Express Tribune (18 June 2012) to prove that the alleged list of Malik Riaz’s beneficiaries is fake, and that along with other “credible journalists” (including Hamid Mir, Mubashir Lucman, Najam Sethi, Meher Bokhari etc), her name too does not deserve to be in that notorious list.

While I have no means to confirm or challenge the authenticity of the Riaz Malik’s beneficiaries list, in this post, I offer some quick comments on Marvi’s article which is reproduced in full in comments section for your quick review.

Notwithstanding the authenticity or otherwise of the list, it is possible to identify some glaring flaws in Marvi’s reasoning and position.

Half of Marvi’s article is about how the account number does not belong to her.

The list showed that I accepted Rs1 million through a bank transfer from “NIBC [SIC] Bank Limited (Bahria Town Branch)”. An account number was also given against this transaction — #8283982-5. However, no one bothered to confirm whether the account belonged to me. And no one asked why a real estate tycoon would invest his money in a human rights campaigner. In fact, the account number mentioned above does not belong to me, nor have I ever had an account in NIB Bank.

This is how Marvi’s name is mentioned in the list of alleged beneficiaries of Malik Riaz:

Marvi Sirmed
– Received 10 Lakh Rupees
Money Transferred From: NIBC Bank Limited (Bahria Town Branch) Account# 8284059
evi

Did she not read the “Money Transferred From” in the alleged list? Plain English, no?

Strawman or lazy comprehension?

Marvi then argues that she is neither an anchor nor a journalist, therefore, her name is odd in that list.

This extraordinary list bore some very credible names of the electronic and print media. Even more shocking was the fact that it had another odd name. Mine.

Is she not a regular columnist for Daily Times? Doesn’t the fact (that she is not a regular journo or anchor) per se explain why she was allegedly given a meagre amount (10 lac Rs only) compared to tens of millions and land given to other more regular journalists or anchors?

Marvi then claims she takes a clear stand on rights of persecuted minorities.

Who could target a person who always takes a clear stand on controversial issues, be it the rights of persecuted minorities, Ahmadis, Hazara Shia Muslims, Hindus, Christians, the Baloch missing persons and their bullet-riddled bodies

This is the most interesting bit: “Hazara Shia Muslims”!

Did you notice Marvi supports (all) Ahmadis, Hindus, Christians etc but only “Hazara” Shia Muslims? Did you notice the ethnic colour she is giving to Shia genocide which is affecting Shias of all ethnicities, from Parachinar to Gilgit and from Karachi to Quetta?

Marvi should explain why she routinely tends to give ethnic colour to Shia Genocide? eg see her picture in this post: http://worldshiaforum.wordpress.com/2012/04/13/is-it-hazara-genocide-or-shia-genocide-by-musa-changezi/

marvi hazara

April 2012: Islamabad – Noted liberal activist Marvi Sirmed speaks to four or five activists of ISI-sponsored HDP in Islamabad who are protesting against “Hazara genocide”

Marvi should also explain since when are Shia Muslims considered a minority group in Pakistan? Does she know the meaning of minority in Pakistani constitution (ie., non-Muslim)? Why is she using the same language which is used and demanded by militants and Takfiri Deobandi mullahs (Akram Lahori, Malik Ishaq) of Sipah-e-Sahaba to describe Shia Muslims?

Instead of condemning Shia genocide across Pakistan, confining their persecution to a specific ethnic group is hardly a clear stand!

On Twitter, Marvi alleged that PTI officials and activists were behind the creation and circulation of “the fake list”. However, she fails to explain why would PTI embarrass their own assets, ie, pro-PTI journalists (e.g., Mubashir Lucman, Meher Bokhari, several others). [Mubasher Lucman speaking at #PTI membership drive Rawalpindi (May 20, 2012)]

Apparently those journalists who are allegedly exposed in the Bahria Gate list are blaming “PTI trolls” as a convenient cover up. This is like give a dog a bad name and hang it. Instead of confronting the content, they want to shoot the messenger!

Marvi then boasts of her “umpteen writings against policies of Pakistan’s military establishment”. Is that what she does at the pro-establishment Jinnah Institute which routinely publishes and promotes pro-establishment documents and analyses, and promotes pro-ASWJ-Taliban clerics such as Tahir Ashrafi Deobandi?

Marvi should explain: isn’t Jinnah Institute a pro-establishment think tank? Isn’t she a part of JI’s activities and promotion?

For transparency, will Marvi publish any payments or perks she has received from Jinnah Institute, and in what capacity?

Marvi should also explain why she is usually seen flattering and promoting most compromised journoalist eg Najam Sethi, Hamid Mir, Ejaz Haider, Raza Rumi and others on Twitter and also in everyday life?

Leading journalists in Pakistan have revealed that Marvi Sirmed happens to be Akram Lahori’s niece. (Akram Lahori is the Deobandi terrorist who co-founded Lashkar-e-Jhangvi that has killed thousands of Shia Muslims in last few years). Shia community has complained that Marvi Sirmed provides lists of Shia activists to a pro-Taliban Deobandi cleric. These are serious allegations and must be thoroughly investigated.

In her article, Marvi claims that the Bahria Gate list bears “some very credible names of the electronic and print media.” Credible names such as Najam Sethi (who conspired with ISI to get Benazir Bhutto government dismisssed), Hamid Mir (the Punjabi Taliban audio-tape fame), Mubashir Lucman (the Riaz Malik video leak fame) etc?

No, Marvi, no. You and your companions Rumi, Mir, Sethi, Ejaz, Jinnah Institute are no friends of persecuted communities Shias, Balochs, Ahmadis, Pashtuns etc. You and other pro-establishment fake liberals use our names in order to promote and project your rights activist and liberal credentials but in reality you have little understanding of or/and commitment to the cause of the persecuted communities.

Marvi, did not you, Beena Sarwar and other urban elite liberals choose to remain silent and in some cases defended Ejaz Haider and others when they justified and rationalized the persecution and massacre of Shia Muslims, Balochs and Pashtuns? Did you not promote and appreciate the Jinnah Institute’s report (written by your friend Raza Rumi) that blatantly misrepresented the suffering of Ahmadiyya Muslims and Shia Muslims in Pakistan? Did you not remain silent when Ahmed Ludhianvi’s hate speech against Shias was published in The Friday Times edited by Najam Sethi and Raza Rumi?

Did not you and your companions promote Hamid Mir as a hero in clear view of his anti-Shia, anti-Ahmadi and pro-Taliban inclinations?

You support Hamid Mir, Ejaz Haider, Raza Rumi and Najam Sethi and then express concern for Shias, Ahmadis, Balochs etc?

Ajeeb teri siasat, ajeeb tera nizam
Yazid say bhi marasim, Hussain ko bhi salam?

Marvi, probably the list is fake and, unlike Umme Hassan and other Deobandi militants of Laal Masjid, you might not have received a single penny from Riaz Malik but the circumstantial evidence suggests that your discourses and actions on important issues (discussed above) are as compromised as those of several known sell outs around you. Mind your company, your discourse will surely improve. Try!

Uh… i dont know what level of research you do in your work… but the list clearly says the money was deposited [SIC]FROM[SIC] NIBC [SIC] Bank Limited (Bahria Town Branch)”account number #8283982-5.. so of course it would belong to Bahria Town!
And why would he bribe you? I think youre being slightly humble when you say youre not a journalist. As an activist, you are as much an opinion former as any journalist or tv anchor.
Not to say that any of this is true, but your defence is hardly watertight.
    Tch tch
From Day 1 everyone has been saying the list is fake. Apart from you and NJ no one is throwing a hissy fit. Part and parcel of Public life…the lady doth protest too much though.
If not MR then maybe some State Dept, USAID scam run CIA front for “Capacity Building” or what not, I dont really think you want your accounts scrutinised. Neither do you have the courage to declare your assets which is the logical response of anyone credibility being questioned, Hence your Melodrama….Understandable….. You routinely name call and slander your opponents in print and on TV btw.

Our collective disregard for the due process of justice has made things easier for the forces of oppression in Pakistan. Now, they don’t have to kill the people with loud voices of dissent. They just have to humiliate them through cyber bullies and discredit them through one word: corrupt. All they have to do is give a random figure, an account number with the name of a bank and publicly accuse any person of integrity of taking bribes. Nothing at all would be demanded to substantiate the claim, not even basic reasoning.
It so happened amid the hubbub of the recent scandal involving the son of the chief justice of Pakistan and the real estate tycoon Malik Riaz — just when we should have been asking important questions about how Malik Riaz went scot-free in the land of the pure for nearly 20 years. Instead, we landed in a debate about the corruption of media persons.
Last week, a list with names of several journalists appeared in the media, with its originator remaining unidentified. Along with the names of the journalists, it also gave the value of the money or assets alleged to have been used by Malik Riaz to bribe them. The list attracted some reaction from the media fraternity but soon everyone rubbished it as being fake. Following this, Imran Khan demanded an inquiry into the media people, who have been bribed by Malik Riaz. The next day, two things appeared on the social media which created quite a volcanic effect. One was a leaked video of two TV anchors and Malik Riaz, during an interview allegedly staged by the latter. The other was a YouTube video displaying a list — updated this time — of 19 journalists and TV anchors on a supposed Bahria Town letterhead.
This extraordinary list bore some very credible names of the electronic and print media. Even more shocking was the fact that it had another odd name. Mine. Not a journalist by profession, I was shocked to see myself in that league. A professional in the field of democratic governance and an activist for human rights in a voluntary capacity, I could not understand why I was put under the rubric of ‘journalists and anchors’.
Also, in fact, the account number, according to the website of Bahria Orchard, belongs to Bahria Town itself — that too, for transactions in US dollars. On my inquiry from the Bahria Town management, a person who introduced herself as Malik Riaz’s personal secretary categorically told me that neither the letterhead nor the list belonged to them.
As a salaried person, I have a regular salary account in a bank, which is certainly not NIB. All my financial details will be available for judicial scrutiny if and whenever that might happen. But since we believe only in the rhetoric of supremacy of judiciary, with no respect for the court and its procedure, we might not require any judicial procedure before forming our judgments.
The important question remains: why would someone include my name in a list that is clearly fake and made only to target certain kinds of people. Who could target a person who always takes a clear stand on controversial issues, be it the rights of persecuted minorities, Ahmadis, Hazara Shia Muslims, Hindus, Christians, the Baloch missing persons and their bullet-riddled bodies, against discriminatory laws, especially the blasphemy laws, rights of women, children and labourers, rights of transvestites and eunuchs and even the most controversial, LGBT rights. Not to forget, my umpteen writings against the policies of Pakistan’s military establishment, against extremists, against terrorists, against a blind and sickening hatred towards neighboring India.
Attacking my integrity has killed my enthusiasm to change society for the better. You should have pumped bullets in me like you did with Shaheed Salmaan Taseer, instead of doing this. Little hope could be attached to a society that disparages voices of dissent like this. Maybe, history will judge me better.

  • Shame on LUBP (LUDP). What an abusive article you dogs have written. You are playing on establishment’s pitch, you are yourselves ISI touts.

  • “However, no one bothered to confirm whether the account belonged to me.”

PB takes Marvi to school. 🙂

  • post like these had made a lubp a joke .

Does lubp trying to suggest Marvi received money because she is promote likes of ejaz haider on twitter ?

To dissect marvi’s claim she didn’t received money does one have to archive flaws in her activism ?

IF you don’t agree with marvi’s claim that she is not journalist because she is regular dailytimes columnist then you must also mention topic of her columns .

  • This post is from Pakistan Blogzine. And the implications are very clear. Pakistan’s opinion makers are v. compromised. They may not all be on the take but their discourse is that of sellouts. PB, lubp, pmw have been exposing the media for sometime and they have been proven right over the long run. Read their articles and who they support on social media. Anyone going out of their way to defend GHQ types like EH is doubtful in my opinion.

  • @Shakeel

Here’s one example of a column in which Marvi Sirmed praised Jinnah Institute’s extremism watch report:

    In Marvi Sirmed’s words:

    http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2012%5C02%5C20%5Cstory_20-2-2012_pg3_2

“Jinnah Institute’s (JI’s) excellent report ‘Extremism Watch’ maps conflict trends in Pakistan covering the period of September 2010 to September 2011. ”

(While Marvi refers to some definitional issues and room for discussion in the said report, she makes no mention of how sufferings of Shias, Pashtuns and Ahmadis have been misrepresented in the same report.) It is the same report which was criticized by Farhat Taj and other activists because it misrepresents Shias, Ahmadis and Pashtuns. http://pakistanblogzine.wordpress.com/2012/03/12/jinnah-institutes-extremist-watch-report-is-anti-shia-anti-ahmadi-and-anti-pashtun/

There are several other examples in her columns and also on Twitter where she is engaged in dubious discourse, or becomes silent on issues of personal or moral conflict involving her friends.

  • For transparency, will Marvi publish any payments or perks she has received from Jinnah Institute, and in what capacity?

As one of Marvi’s friends, I think she should do that. That will silence her critics.

  • As a Shia Hazara, I will refer Ms Marvi Sirmead to this verse (Sher) which a Shia recites to Hamid Gul in the first 25 seconds of this clip.

    http://youtu.be/HDhdERGvxY8

Ms Sirmad, you can’t stand with Ejaz Haider /JI and Shias including Shia Hazaras at the same time. Make a choice!

  • Right now (yes NOW) on Twitter, Marvi is busy in misrepresenting Shia genocide as a Hazara ethnic issue. Is she naive or compromised?

  • From Hamid Mir to Marvi Sirmed, LUBP is attacking all progressive honest voices in Pakistani media. Shame on LUDP.

  • Shakeel,

Google the series of articles that were written after Aatish Taseer’s brilliant exposure of the Pakistani Military dominated Deep State. Many of them are actually on this excellent site and fyi, many of us from across the border love LUBP even if some elitest Pakistanis hate it- just like they insult their elected leaders abroad while supporting nut cases like Irman Khan.

We in India are now very careful about human rights activists and doves like Marvi. She says some very nice things but look at who she is defending and standing with. She is defending Ejaz Haider who is an indirect Hafiz Saeed apologist. When this group critisizes the ISI, it is mostly cosmetic. Look at where they are now – all in the Jinnah Institute which asks to accomodate Taliban in Afghanistan.

When is elite Pakistan (not the average masses) going to get over the phobia of India. We are not interested in conquering you whether it is from Sialkot, Lahore, Kasur, Gwadar, Kabul, Karachi, Islamabad. Really, what is wrong with the Punjabi elite?

That is why Marvi and Beena stand increasingly discredited in Indian policy circles. No one takes their cosmetic dove posturing seriously – especially when they are both in tandem with military establishment Hawks like Ejaz Haider.

From your surname Arian, you are probably a Punjabi. I have no problem with Punjabis in general but some of their elites are obsessed with this whole ghairat posturing. You can hate LUBP but let me tell you that even Shashi Tharoor jee used to follow this blog’s edittor, Abdul Nishapuri on twitter.

    ……….

  • TwitterGate & a Response to Nusrat Javed Sb
Posted by Teeth MaestroJune 17, 2012

The fiasco started as #FamilyGate, turned into a #MalikGate, morphed into #MediaGate and suddenly I was thrushed into a weird fiasco which I choose to call as #TwitterGate. Unless you have been sleeping under a rock im sure you must have read Pakistans obsession with the “Gate fiasco” somewhere along the line, watergate to memogate etc etc, It seems Pakistanis are ready to rename all possible gates in Lahore and beyond
TwitterGate takes birth on the afternoon of 14th June 2012. When suddenly scanned copies of a Baharia Town documents appeared on the social networks, it listed about 19 top journalists to have been allegedly favored by the Bahria town owners in one form of the other, [this release comes hours after the off-air DunyaTV youtube video hits the social network hours earlier]. Noticing these images, I choose to share the image by ProPakistani at 4:05 pm on my facebook profile

The ProPakistani had actually picked it up from a twitter account of Abdullah Saad (@Kursed) who had actually posted this a status update on Twitter
    @kursed
    Post Deleted
    — Abdullah Saad (@Kursed) June 14, 2012
    14 Jun 12
Upon talking to Abdullah Saad today he categorically says that the image was not posted by him, but instead was a ReTweet of a particular media personality, whose tweet he ReTweeted (new style), when “the media personality” deleted his own tweet, it actually resulted in Abdullah Saad’s tweet also being deleted. The name of the media personality mentioned by Abdullah Saad was given to me but I choose to with-hold the name until I can get his own point of view [I’m paying caution to the wind lest i be sucked in an another circus]
[Read an update at the bottom of this post]
My second facebook update was made at 4:31pm after I discovered that the ProPakistani had only one page [3rd page] and Meri Jan Pakistan had the entire 4-page set on their facebook page in an album titled #MediaGate

After this post almost 29 minutes after from my “first Facebook (ProPakistani) status update” I tweeted the following at precisely 4:34pm on 14th June 2012. This was then also the first time I shared this on twitter and by then twitter was brimming full of these documents, if for an example even Kursed himself had retweeted the particular update well before 4:05pm, to have been picked up by ProPakistani and then to have been re-shared by myself

No where have I been involved in the “release or creation of this list” – I issue an open challenge to anyone to find any link, IP address to find that I personally helped create the list or to have uploaded this document.
The mere fact that roughly 39 people [as of writing of this post] retweeted a tweet after it had already been in circulation prior to 4:05pm does not mean that the blaming finger points to a person whose tweet “was viewed by the most number of times” versus anyone elses’.
If the accusation, that I should have verified the document before sharing – can be the possible debate, but the brunt of the accusation thrown upon me for the past two days, is to have been the “original uploader” &/or “have been involved in the creation” of this list – Which I am neither
The slanderous campaign on Dunya TV and on Bolta Pakistan is uncalled for, as much as they accuse me for not verifying a document, I stand to question them in-turn – these “Professional Journalists” have initiated a slanderous campaign against me without verifying the facts, they accused me of creating the document but did not even so much as care to investigate the facts or the digital trail, two wrongs dont make a right.
Nusrat Javed Sb was mighty irritated on the evening of the 14th on Bolta Pakistan, after having been cyber bullied by many on twitter, Im sure he along with many other anchors must have received a number of attacks, for which he generally has chosen to clump them to have been “directed by PTI”. Nusrat Sb, with all due respect, PTI Social Media team (including me) have absolutely no control over any twitter user, we advocate our supporters to discuss issues with decency and respect but there is no way we can control or censor what a random person might say.
Absolutely no one is under my personal direction nor is delegated by me to run such malicious campaign against any journalist or any person whatsoever
With the possibility of so many fake & random accounts that can exist on twitter, we would like to draw your attention that there could very well be a deliberate & malicious attempt by our opponents to mal-align PTI, I’m not transferring the blame away but it must seriously be factored in.
Nusrat Sb goes on to accuse me on his Bolta Pakistan page to be running the PTI-troll army
This SMS I just got from a PTI-insider from abroad: Nusrat Sahab the man behind all this propaganda against us is Dr Awab Alvi. He gives instructions to all the PTI trolls on social media. He was also behind that list.”
My response, Sir, is your journalistic research dependent upon an SMS? I’m sure not, I do hope that your PTI-Insider has more to show for than a mere 180 character message. Let me reassure you PTI totally and fully denounces abusive language, neither the party not its social media team has any interest in creating enemies from media personalities. Our team is open to suggestions on how to handle this growing problem and remain open to ideas and suggestions for the same, we cannot stop / censor the internet, mere reinforcement by leaders does not solve the issue, hence a dilemma worth frothing over
I must admit, due to the emotionless 140-character paradigm of twitter there are times when a certain irritated slapstick jab, possibly a wrong selection of words, can be perceived as abuse [non-profanity], but we all try to avoid such situations and advocate others to do the same
Hence in conclusion – neither PTI nor I, have any link or association with this document, the public discourse after its release has more or less been shrugged off as false
A good read as well – Facts that Nusrat Sahib missed
UPDATE June 17th 15:00: On June 12th at 12:59am it seems Wajahat Khan posted a link to the youtube video which has the same names of the anchors listed – he posted the same to his own followers on twitter and facebook
    Wajahat S. Khan@WajSKhan
Here it is. The allegedly ‘corrupt journo’ list which was ‘released’ in Lahore MT @GMustafaaa: youtube.com/watch?v=GFJnA0… @Razarumi #Bahria #CJ

It seems the Twitter and Facebook digital trail ends at or near this time frame Wajahat, Ghulam Mustafa & Asad Kharal were discussing this list almost two days prior to it appearing on the 14th afternoon, it might be best to ask them to clarify the origins of this list?
UPDATE #2 17th June 19:30: Digging a little deeper it seems the Youtube Video that Wajahat & Ghulam Mustafa shared was actually uploaded on 7th of June 2012 [go to the Youtube video and click stats to see the necessary data] the first site to upload it was on a forum on PKPOLITICS – the URL http://pkpolitics.com/discuss/topic/%d8%b5%d8%ad%d8%a7%d9%81%db%8c%d8%8c-%d8%ac%d8%b1%d9%86%db%8c%d9%84%d8%8c-%d8%b3%db%8c%d8%a7 it is now not accessible, and may have been moderated out, while at the same time the user made multiple posts on Twitter, Facebook & Siasat.pk. It seems to be a random user making multiple posts and possibly got moderated. Of the four sites uploading it first, it might be prudent for the investigation team to issue a show-cause notice by NR3C and get the necessary IP addresses from PkPolitics &/or Siasat.pk [since Twitter and Facebook would definitely not oblige] Once you track the video you can figure out where did the TwitterGate actually originate from.
UPDATE #3 June 18th 23:00: The digital trail seems to end at Asad Kharal who at 12:17am on June 12th shares that a list of distributed at the Punjab Assembly
    Asad Kharal@AsadKharal
list distributed in Punjab Assembly, contains names of anchors including female anchor, allegedly received money, plots, from Malik Riaz.
    11 Jun 12 ReplyRetweetFavorite

Seeing this tweet I’m furious, this document was circulated outside the Punjab Assembly in front of hundreds of Lawmakers, Not one person had the decency to confess up or point out the facts to Nusrat Javed Sb that this list originated from an individual in the Punjab Assembly.
A so-called jounrliast like Nusrat Javed should have done the necessary research before mouthing off allegations, on me and PTI. I personally can only thank him for all the media attention it got me, but I should have the right to challenge Nusrat Javed to have the decency to issue an apology, is he above the norms of decency? must be since when we challenged he flatly refused

  • Shahid Masood responds to “MediaGate” scandal

By: Zuhaeb Nazir, Uploaded: 15th June 2012
Renowned TV anchor, Dr Shahid Masood on Thursday, responded to the inclusion of his name within the list of 19 journalists alleged of being bribed by the Bahria Town owner, Malik Riaz.

According to the list, Dr. Shahid Masood, was financed for 7 trips to Dubai along with other monetary incentive. The anchor has responded to this accusation by tweeting on his personal account on the social networking website “Twitter”. He has tweeted that he is living in Dubai for the last ten years further asking Malik Riaz to blame him (Shahid Masood) in a better way in the future.

Dr. Masood has also pointed out in his tweet that a media guy was involved in bringing up the list and that particular media guy was on the payroll of Malik Riaz.

Dr. Masood also opined that PTI was not involved in bringing up the list and that a close aide (having strong media affiliation) of Malik Riaz was the main actor in the entire scenario.

  • Thank you very much LUBP. In short, I have accepted money – 10 lakh – from Malik Riaz. And I’m pro-ISI, do not believe in minorities’ rights, if I stand with Hazra shias, I’m giving ethnic colour to it, and thus propagating pro-ISI agenda. Quite impressive dissection of what I wrote as my side of the story.

Perhaps I should not have tried to do it at all. And perhaps I should not bother about what this blogs writes about me. I should not consider myself center of universe even if you think so. If I take stock of people against me, its PTI, Difa-e-Pakistan, ISI, Pak mil establishment, all right wingers, LUBP, religious political parties. . . . oh I must be a way too powerful woman than I had ever thought!

Keep counting my ‘wealth’ that you think I have taken from Malik Riaz or from ISI. Based? A picture! Or did you hear what I said in that rally? Not important. Let’s not distract ourselves by facts, let’s keep spewing whatever venom we can.

But dear LUBP friends, to tell you true, I had never imagined even you would do that. I had thought you are friends, Friends and comrades. I thought I’m fighting with fullest sincerity of my heart. And in that I never cared for my family and myself. How wrong I was! I should have heeded when my daughter was abused at, when my little doll would not sleep for nights and keep herself awake beside me lest her mother might not be killed by the goons who, she thought, could break in our house any time. Such was the trauma this little angel of mine had to undergo when ISI attacked my home. But I stayed firm. I counted on the strength extended by so many good people around, including LUBP. I will always be grateful to LUBP for standing by my side in those difficult days. In fact, I could not have countered those fierce cyber attacks on me and my family, had you people were not there.

I say and write things what I used to do then. I’m consistent on my stands. Wherever I go, even the ISPR’s conference in Swat, I say things which you people say from behind fake identities. Be it ISPR conferences / briefings, JI seminars, or rallies by anyone – my stance has never faltered. But since you’re so sure about my ghatiyapan, beghairti, my hypocrisy, my underhand dealings with ISI and its proxies like Malik Riaz, its useless to expect you would ever listen to me. This is last time I’m writing on this blog. You must not be subjected to the torture of having any link with such an opportunist and zaleel aurat who would take a ‘paltry’ amount of Rs 1 million and sell her ideology. You supported a wrong woman.

By the way, I’m a regular columnist no where. Even with these ghatiya credentials, I had raised the voice for the rights of their workers who were not being paid their salaries for months. Developed disagreement and left Daily Times months ago. You know, even a third woman like me tried her bit for workers’ rights. But wait a minute, this might also be a drama you know. May be, i had received money for doing that even. Next investigative assignment for you!

    Khush rahein. But yaad rakhein,

Dushmani jam ke karo, magar itni gunjaayesh rahay
Kal agar hum dost ban jaayen tau sherminda na hon!

    Keep up the good work.

    Best,

A bad, corrupt woman. Worthy of collective insult.

  • @Mukesh Sb ,

I’m not taking anyone’s right to disagree with her views on pashtun conflict or on state sponsored terrorism . And I also may have same views on some of those issues but point IS author has not given any signicant evidence which state she has taken money from Malik Riaz .

IF you don’t have any evidence of her taking bribing than you are yourself weakening your argument when you criticize her on her views on state sponsored terrorism .

  • @Shakeel,

Let me state this clearly – I DON’T think Marvi took any money. Even this article does not say this definitively. What disappoints me is how can one who has said such good things for peace with my country then also be supportive of ISPR mouthpieces like Ejaz Haider. This is what worries me. As for views, her views are excellent. I disagree with the author that Marvi is being insensitive to Shias. I have seen her youtube clips that are to the contrary. My problem is not so much with her stated discourse. It is her support and affiliation with problematic groups and individuals. I can see her being coopted by the very people who support Difa-e-Pakistan leader and anti-Indian terrorist-inciter Hafiz Saeed. In other words, her association and support for Ejaz Haider and his Jinnah Institute deeply troubling. You are free to keep your blinders on.

  • Sorry for bothering once again, but kindly educate me what views of Ejaz Haider (who is a family friend) did I ever endorse? Trust me it is going to be very educative for me, as even EH knows that I differ with him everywhere, be it JI (which is not his institute anymore) or in drawing rooms.

Also, please me also know, what statement of mine or any writing by me made you think I endorse ISI’s dirty role in Shia genocide? Where did I say or write that Shia genocide is not being committed by ISI-supported LeJ and other sectarian organizations? Please locate my statements, instead of my pictures participating in two JI seminars, one of which I moderated. I thought I made myself unpopular by asserting my position against state-sponsored terrorism on these forums, where such an opinion is difficult to say. What other problematic groups I support, and how? And if your opinion is based on my personal relationship with some of the people with whom we all differ, is there a thin possibility that this hateful creature called Marvi Sirmed, may not be sharing the viewpoint with these friends? No no, I’m not trying to change your opinion about me. You’re entitled to your views. I just wanted to understand where I was wrong. And what makes me such a despicable character.

Anyone of the authors of this post and other posts against me, or any commentators on LUBP posts would be welcomed to share their concerns. I mean, only if you would like to engage with a corrupt woman! My email address: marvisirmed@gmail.com.

  • @Marvi

I personally apologize if any part of this post has misrepresented your work or has hurt your feelings. I have asked the author to directly contact you to share any concerns.

You remain very dear to all of us, notwithstanding some differences on certain issues, which are only natural.

  • @Mukesh Sb

Its irrelevant to debate whether you think she took money or not . The point IS you have to support your argument with evidence , secondly , archiving all her all ‘mistake’ in a blog when she is allegedly accused of taking bribe is no different from those journo who are supporting court verdict on grounds of Prime Minister poor performance .

  • Marvi has done a tremendous job as a human right activist while being constantly criticized, abused and harassed. It takes extreme courage to come out in the open and challenge the dominant narratives. LUBP should immediately remove this page and offer an apology.

  • @Faraz

If LUBP has not removed these very critical posts on LUBP:

    http://criticalppp.com/archives/tag/criticism-of-lubp

    and also on PPP:

    http://criticalppp.com/archives/tag/criticism-of-ppp

then why should it remove a critical post on Marvi (or Haqqani or Rehman Malik or Nawaz Sharif or Kayani etc)?

Marvi has done an honourable thing by defending herself but nowhere in the present post I have seen something abusive or impolite.

Why does LUBP need to delete or censor differing or critical views?

  • Your argument is childish that by writing Shia Hazara, Marvi gave ethnic touch to sectarian killings! Shia Hazara specifies that in Hazara Baluchistan, a large number of people have been killed because they are Shia. Shia are getting killed everywhere, but most ruthlessly and systematically in Hazara. I think it’s essential that you mention Shia Hazara. What’s so conspiratorial about that?

And even the lame PTI fans know that the journalists list is fake. You guys are much more knowledgeable than those kids. I know that you know that the list is fake; but you are acting stupid just to put blame on her.

  • How many tweets did Marvi Sirmed dedicate to the 11 innocent Sindhis who were brutally massacred in the Love Sindh rally in Karachi in the month of May?! Zero! Just like the rest of he so-called liberal friends.

  • Marvi Sirmed is a rank opportunist! She will exploit the Baloch and Shia genocide cases only to shut her detractors up yet she calls Ejaz Haider, a man who OPENLY SUPPORTS THE MASSACRING OF THE BALOCH as the state’s response (in the way of the European liberals apparently), a realist!

You are known by the company you keep Marvi! How can you not be above censure and ridicule when you sit with an anti-Baloch, anti-Pashtun and pro-Taliban organisation as the so-called Jinnah Insititute!

  • Yeah and one more thing. “Engaging” with this woman will ultimately end up with her blocking you. These people with thousands of followers tend to be rather cowardly. They block you and run away instead of answering you when they run out of answers.
