When asked about Bernie Sander’s Democratic Socialist movement in the United States, 30-year old Bilawal Bhutto displayed maturity and articulation beyond both his age and that of his sexagenarian and septuagenarian political rivals (Niazi and Nawaz Sharif)
Bilawal is often mocked, slandered and abused by Pakistan’s urban chattering elites. Like his late mother Benazir, he is mocked for his Urdu skills. This coming from a class of venal elites who boast that their own children are ignorant about Urdu and Punjabi, as well as other Pakistani languages.
Bilawal presented his arguments coherently and made more sense than most.
While his PPP’s record is far from perfect, it is still far better than others. In the 4 governments Pakistan has experienced in the 21st century (including the US-backed 9-year military dictatorship of General Musharraf), PPP has delivered the most on the economy, social welfare, provincial autonomy, foreign policy and legislation.
Even pro-PML N propaganda rags like DAWN have had to acknowledge this along with World Bank studies.
General Musharraf’s regime failed to account for $20 billion in coalition support funds while enjoying the most lenient IMF regime. Nawaz Sharif’s goon government pilfered billions of dollars on shiny Pork Barrel Commission projects like Metros and Railways whose economic benefits are far less than their display value. In doing so, PML N laid the groundwork for the economic crash by the witless, clueless and spineless Niazi government of Imran Khan.
