In the 2013 elections, the Taliban publicly endorsed (right wing) PML N and PTI. They warned PPP and ANP and followed up their threats with actual violence against these two political parties on the left and center.
The results were that PPP and ANP were electorally decimated in vast areas of Pakistan. In 2012, Abdul Qadir Gillani was able to defeat a combined PML N-PTI-Jamaat e Islami-Sipah e Sahaba alliance in a Multan bye election by 6,000 votes.
A few months later, PPP was wiped out from its traditional same South Punjab stronghold when the Taliban endorsed PML N and PTI. Qadir’s brother, Hyder was wounded and kidnapped for years along with Taseer’s son. The kidnappers were Al Qaeda who were being backed by PML N’s senior leaders like Rana Sanaullah and Chaudhry Nisar.
Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif openly opposed any action against the Taliban or their Takfiri Deobandi affiliates all over Pakistan. PML N’s media wing, lead by Najam Sethi and Talat Hussain, provided soft media platforms to Al Qaeda and ISIS affiliates like Sipah e Sahaba/ASWJ.
The Friday Times blog, edited and run by Najam Sethi and his family, friends and cronies, allowed an interview that normalized violent incitement against Shia Muslims as “just a political slogan”.
The same Najam Sethi served as the Goebbels for Nawaz Sharif’s disinformation wing. In the summer of 2014, both Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan we’re competing on who could sink lower in justifying the terrorism of the Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s commercial liberal mafia and boutique left continued to suck up to Nawaz Sharif and deliberately misrepresented his opportunism and tokenism as some mythical act of enlightenment and resistance.
In 2014, Sipah e Sahaba openly cheered on PML N and the Sharif dynasty. The same Sharifs had recently perpetrated the massacre of the anti-Taliban Sunni Muslims following Dr Tahir ul Qadri.
Ehsanullah Ehsan represents a painful memory for all those Pakistanis who feel pained at the violent murder of 70,000 other Pakistanis at the hands of the TTP and their Takfiri affiliates.
Pakistan remembers how both Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan stood with the likes of Ehsanullah and enjoyed and benefited from TTP’s electoral “endorsement” in 2013.
